Debra and DallasThe photograph shows Dallas, my beloved first horse. I had him for 17 full years until he became injured; I believe he cast himself in his corral. We spent one more year together and I enjoyed every moment. He gave me so many great memories; it was my pleasure to be there until the end for him—to give back a safe and secure home when, now, he needed me to be there. My familiar voice and our bond meant a lot to him. He clung to me very closely. I was very lucky to have owned him. I had been looking to purchase another horse, a 2 year old. I was retiring Dallas and wanted also to get him a companion, and me another horse to ride. Well, although they did meet, I lost Dallas. He is my inspiration for this web site and message forum. Many Soft Nickers, |

Zarife aka "Big Z"Tory is the owner of Big Z. Tory is a wonderfully talented photographer and here is what she had to say: Hi Debra! What a GREAT idea for a web site! Even though my horse owning years are long past, I too had an older horse. He was an Arabian Stallion and I got him when he was 16 and he lived with me until he died at the age of 25. You are so right that they (older horses) do have special needs. Make sure that you have a good vet that you can rely on and that knows that your know you horse! What a wonderful relationship for both. Many Soft Nickers, |

GusBeloved Gus, owned by Katie. Just take a look at this lovable teddy bear. He was Katie's true friend and entered her heart forever. You can see so clearly on Katies' face the happiness he brought her. He has even inspired poetry from Katie. Gus was a wonderful BIG Belgium. He just looks like a best friend! We honor him here on the olderhorses.com forum. Many Soft Nickers, |

CheyneneIn honor of Cheyenne, a truly wonderful horse. Owned by Henry Glenn. My friend Henry sure knew his horses. Cheyenne sired Thumper, my spotted Draft along with many other beautiful horses around the United States. I, here at olderhorses.com, honor and share this beautiful photograph provided by Michael Glenn. Just look at his adorbale ears, they look as if they were dipped in chocolate. Many Soft Nickers, |

Sweet MollyI would like to honor and share Molly. Owned and loved by Rhonda still to this day. Molly was a surprise birthday present (!) when she was 13 years old. Molly was a big part of Rhondas' family for many, many years. Her daughters even learned to ride on her! What an outstanding event to happen. Molly has left a legacy of some foals behind that are also owned by Rhonda. When you have the opportunity to love and care for a special horse, a one of a kind, you enjoy having her offspring to carry on. Molly was a wonderful long-owned horse and Rhonda appreciated every moment they had. She lived a good long life. Many Soft Nickers,

CookieMeet Cookie, Katies' new horse. He has helped Katie heal over the loss of Gus. Cookie is in his twenties, a sweet, fun and happy gelding. He has Cushing's and Katie loves him all the same – maybe even more. I would have to say Katie is a angel to care for and look after both Cookie and Gus. Just look at the photo and you can see what a nice team these two make. These older horses have so much to continue to give. Many Soft Nickers, |
